The Louisiana Society of Human Resource Managers recently held its 9th Annual Diversity & Inclusion Summit. It kicked off with an Opening Reception and panel discussion on the evolving landscape of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in light of last year’s Supreme Court ruling and subsequent state legal and legislative developments.

Led by moderator Victoria Persons, a DEI expert, the session was entitled The Supreme Court & State Legislation Implications on Inclusion & Belonging: Where do we Go From Here?  It delved deep into the ramifications of these decisions and legislation across the United States and cleared up misconceptions about its applications beyond the Supreme Court’s holding.

Our Founder, Michelle D. Craig, was honored to present the Legal Brief before the discussion and then sit on the panel with Renada Deschamp and Dr. Darvel Hutchins.

Together the panel discussed the challenges and opportunities presented by today’s legal landscape.

Michelle would like to thank the moderator, Victoria Persons, who facilitated an engaging discussion. We explored the complexities of today’s DEI landscape with nuance and discussed the challenges that workplaces face as they continue to push for an inclusive culture.

Events like the LASHRM Diversity & Inclusion Summit highlight how important it is to continue ongoing DEI initiatives, training, and education at all levels. With the right knowledge and skills, leaders, management, and team members can create an inclusive culture in any business. Working with your legal team is critical for ensuring that all DEI efforts are not only legally sound, but can work to help to ensure legal compliance.

As we move forward from this event, we reaffirm our commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in our community. Together, we can harness the power of DEI to build workplaces and communities where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
